PTE Speaking Format/ Structure

Personal Introduction

The first part of PTE Speaking section is personal introduction where you must first introduce yourself. This section receives no credit. You have 25 seconds to prepare your topic before the microphone turns on, and you may begin speaking after hearing a beep sound.

Read Aloud

You must read the supplied material shown on your computer screen aloud according to the headers.

To prepare the content, the recording status box displays a countdown of 30 to 40 seconds for this segment. Your score is determined by reading, speaking, oral fluency, pronunciation, and content.

Tips: You have 40 seconds to prepare and then another 40 seconds to answer. Don’t read in your head since we may talk smoothly in our heads but stutter when we speak out loud. Practice reading tough phrases a few times, then in the last 5 seconds, read the initial sentence once or twice.

Repeat Sentence

You must speak precisely what you hear in the audio recording in this section. Within a few seconds, the audio clip begins to play automatically. When the clip is done, the microphone is turned on, and the recording begins.

You must talk into the microphone right away since there will be no beep sound.

Tips: Unlike other problems in the speaking module, use the same intonation and stress as the speaker. Make the same word sequences, but don’t worry about correcting yourself if you make any mistakes. Closing your eyes and imagining the text is another technique you might use.

Describe Image

You have to describe a picture that appears on your computer screen in this section. A timeframe of 25 seconds is provided to analyze the image and plan your message. And, you must talk promptly after hearing the buzzer sound.

You must be able to communicate without hesitation. Avoid using words like ‘hhmm’, ‘Ummm’, ‘a….’.

If there is a lot of information to cover in the image, only highlight the most significant information.

Tips: Use the Text Pad to write the template. If you accomplish this, you will be able to speak fluently for 35 seconds. However, some centers may not enable you to write before your tests, so prepare beforehand. The topic isn’t vital in this section, but whatever you say for 35 seconds is. So, during the time allotted, write down the headline, three words, three numbers, and three colors, and run through a fast practice.

Re-tell Lecture

You need to retell the lecture in your own words after the audio clip is over. You will get 10 seconds to prepare yourself after the audio clip is over. After hearing a short beep, start speaking immediately.

The lecture is sometimes accompanied by an illustration to aid comprehension.

Tips: First and foremost, read the instructions carefully to avoid becoming confused with the DI job, as repeating lectures can include an image. Avoid employing tough words and instead choose terms that are simple to pronounce; this will help you improve your pronunciation score. Also, don’t record more than 5 sentences because it may take longer than 40 seconds. Write the phrases into the template while the audio is playing to earn correct points.

Answer short question

You must respond to questions in one or a few words. The questions are more relevant to our day-to-day activities.

The audio clip will start playing automatically, and it may include a picture. The microphone will begin recording your voice after the video is completed. There will be no buzzer sound, and you must respond in one or two words.

You will be scored on whether you responded properly or poorly in this section.

Tips: This portion measures your ability to communicate and listen while focusing on your broad knowledge. If you’re still stumped, rephrase your inquiry. Your fluency marks will suffer if you remain mute. The answers to the questions are either a single word or a few words. If you’re unsure about a response, provide both replies with a little gap in between. The PTE software will choose the correct response, while the erroneous response will be disregarded.

Other important tips to improve your PTE Speaking skills: –

  • Try to speak clearly
  • Don’t hesitate while speaking
  • Never speak before the beep sound
  • Always speak relating to the topics
  • Practice more and more
  • Develop good vocabulary
  • Take care of the technicalities
  • Collection of words to rescue
  • Focus on Fluency and Pronunciation

If you speak before the microphone is switched on, your voice will not be recorded. You’ll only get one chance to record your response. Furthermore, you must talk before the progress meter reaches the end.
